For RNs as well as other careers ones advancement options vary. For some nurses who have been working in the field for awhile may feel they need to advance to management. Keep in mind however unless the RN holds a BS or higher degree their options could be limited. The good news is that if an RN who has an Associates Degree or is a Diploma nurse wants to earn their BSN even while working it is possible.
Several universities offer bachelors degree for working RNs who have not yet earned a degree. Being able to continue ones health education is good news for those wanting to climb the career ladder. Even if the nurse works full time it is possible to still earn a degree.
In today’s world many people who think about a nursing career may think a nurse is limited to working in a hospital setting and only working with patients. Of course that is what many would expect but todays nurses have many more career options available. If they want to be a nurse but prefer not to work with patients it is possible. Whatever the case may be the option for career advancement it is a real possibility.
It appears to be very common now for people to return back to college to earn a higher degree. From an RN perspective where one may only hold a nursing diploma or an associates degree they may only need to earn a bachelors. In addition if the nurse chooses to go beyond a BS degree it may be possible. As a result it appears many nurses are also choosing to go for the MSN degree.
In addition to RNs wanting to enter a management role others are choosing to advance their careers in a different fashion. More specifically some nurses are getting beyond a traditional career of working with patients to pursue other goals.
More specifically some decide to venture into the legal side of things by becoming a legal nurse. Getting into the legal side could mean that person will no longer work with patients unless they choose. Of course each person has to decide for themselves which career track to take but it is nice to have many options to choose from in ones career.
Legal nursing as a career choice does appear to be of interest to many experienced nurses. Of course not every RN plans to go this route as they like to be with patients to help them and their families. However in this society the need for legal nursing professional exists. Typically an rn who has in interest such as this may first need to have a certain amount of experience working as an RN.
Career advancement options are not limited to legal and traditional nursing. Another option may be in another related field in a different way. Becoming a case manager also seems to be another career path of interest to many nurses.
There are a lot of different paths to expand ones career. That is nurses have many paths to consider. Options and flexibility for current and future nurses is great news. This may also help steer those into the field who are still considering all options. That is if they know before they have many options available without getting stuck that may help them make up their mind to enter.
