Taking a walk down memory lane show cases the advancements that have been made within the education system to improve the quality of learning, who would have ever thought that something like a learning management system could be invented to facilitate distant learning creating an easier way for students to further their education? The progression from education then to education now is simply nothing less than an immense accomplishment, yet there seems to be continuous initiatives to develop new ways to further education. With technology constantly striving to breakthrough new walls, it should not surprise us as a new generation of technology within the learning management system begins to develop.
Going back to the 1700’s schools were very limited in size and resources with their one room school house that housed numerous age levels within one class. Schools began to develop quickly and as a result the doors of opportunity were opened for students not discriminating against, age, social class, ethnicity, or gender. Students were put into age groups and created a class for each age group with their own age appropriate material. Skipping ahead a few centuries, computers were brought into schools for the first time. Computers became a regular subject matter within the education system, making it mandatory for students to participate in computer classes and learn typing skills as well as how to navigate through the system.
Everyone went wild when the innovative wireless internet was introduced to facilitate easier access to the world wide web. It can now be found on most every college campus, internet cafes or free wifi signs have been popping up at local coffee houses, workplaces offer wireless internet and even some residential living areas. High Schools are starting to revolutionize their system as they too transition to the web, students are now asked to conduct all transactions of assignments online and are able to view their assignment schedules on School’s portals. As a result of this new development Parents are now able to view their child’s progress in their classes with the online report card feature. Universities are cashing in with the new online learning trend as they create distant learning programs that enable students to receive their degree online via learning management system.
Technology is moving forward continuously as it tries to seek new ways to create an even more efficient and useful means for higher education. As a result interactive courses have been born, with virtual led instructors teaching the material in a live webinar, and newly enhanced assessment means help to measure the effectiveness of these state of the art courses. Content developers have acknowledged the different learning methods and have implemented different styles into their course to appeal to each type of learner. The door of opportunity to further education has been made available to us via the learning management system and valuable learning tools that have been proven to be extremely valuable. It has been an amazing journey from where we started to where we sit now in the education system and knowing that this isn’t the end of new and exciting developments.

I think the following statement is one of the crucial points of the above article: “Content developers have acknowledged the different learning methods and have implemented different styles into their course to appeal to each type of learner.”
I would also add that a Learning Management System (LMS) that contains a secure social network and Web 2.0 tools takes things a step further an enables students to build relationships – the context in which we learn. (For more information, your readers could check out Edvance360.com.)
