PsyD degree encompasses four-five years of study and then an internship, resulting in a license as a doctor in Psychology. The Psyd degree may be an applied/clinical practical degree, as well as a research degree. The two areas of specialization can be very different.

Additionally , there are great discrepancies between academic and professional programs, regarding both the coursework and the necessary fees. Still, a professional school may not be the best fit in some areas of specialization. Considering this, one can find lots of pros and cons concerning the most appropriate choice for a Psyd degree education and those who are interested in the subject matter should always follow their personal preferences and argumentation in order to have the most appropriate solution.

Preferably after obtaining an MS degree, you can pursue a PsyD degree program by enrolling in a college or university, or in a professional school. It is not a rule. You may also decide to take your Psyd degree without a MS one, even if some people may find this a longer and wasteful process. This might in fact become acceptable as time spent learning if you are able to obtain your Psyd degree faster than the average student.

There are programs that allow you to skip some classes and shorten your Psyd degree study time, although the process is not always easy and you have to submit a syllabi waiver on time. Not all PsyD programs will accept shorter studies, however if you manage to complete your syllabi on time, in the first year or two you may be able to skip up to four classes each semester. You could also transfer some classes from your MS program, bit in addition to the information transferred you should also make sure that the sequence of classes is respected.

However, in order to transfer such classes, previous attendance is compulsory, otherwise the transfer will not be allowed. Especially in the first year, a PsyD degree student may have limited options regarding the course variety. The student must always take the required classes first. Classes such as Stats I, Adult Psychology, Child Psychopathology and Research Methods can usually be skipped in several university programs. So if you’re looking to do an MS and afterwards apply to a Psyd degree program, you can also choose research-based MS programs which have a good history of getting people into doctoral programs. And if you are interested in shortening your study time in Psyd degree study, check your syllabi in time and submit your waiver as soon as possible, starting with the first years of study.
